The Senior Underwriter provides underwriting expertise for St. Luke's Health Plan insurance products. This role is responsible for analyzing and evaluating complex risks associated with insurance plans and making sound decisions regarding pricing and risk management, with an emphasis on the creation of sophisticated underwriting processes. The Senior Underwriter collaborates closely with sales, actuarial, and product teams to support the organization's growth while maintaining the financial integrity of its products.
-Establishes renewal processes and independently conducts experience rating analyses to review claims performance and determine appropriate renewal offers.
-Analyzes group demographics, claims history, and market conditions to evaluate risk and determine appropriate pricing for new and renewing groups.
-Develops, enhances, and maintains underwriting models to assess risks accurately and ensure competitive and actuarially sound rate development.
-Builds and maintains strong working relationships with sales and account management teams to collaboratively develop underwriting strategies that align with business goals and customer needs.
-Proactively identifies strategic opportunities to meet St. Luke's Health Plan growth and profitability objectives through a deep understanding of key customer and broker needs.
-Leads evaluation of financial and clinical data to project future costs and profitability of St. Luke's Health Plan products.
-Prepare and present detailed underwriting reports and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and clients.
-Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and underwriting guidelines.
-Participate in cross-functional projects with product, actuarial, and medical management teams to enhance product offerings and optimize underwriting strategies.
-Leads the development and refinement of tools, processes, and guidelines to improve underwriting efficiency and accuracy.
-Provides guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters, as needed.
-Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall underwriting function.
Education: Bachelor's degree or experience in lieu of degree
